Preparing for Winter
I’ts getting darker sooner and colder faster. This is the time of year where the cold causes us all to reach for that thermostat. Before turning up the heat however, take a few minutes to check out the furnace. Replace the the air cleaner, check for anything placed around the furnace that could catch fire.
Finally, consider getting a good quality carbon monoxide detector. These can be purchased for about 50 bucks but can literally save you and your families live. Gas furnaces that aren’t adjusted correctly can burn incompletely and instead of exhausting carbon dioxide and water vapor, the partially unburned gases create corbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is odorless but can kill.
